This Sankranti is extra special for Century Star Shivarajkumar and his fans. The Hattrick Hero has a major theatrical release in the form of Captain Miller, in which he has a major role, and on TV, he’s got his last Kannada film, Ghost, getting its premiere. The action heist thriller, directed by MG Srinivas was the big Kannada release last Dasara and took on competition from big-ticket films like Leo, Bhagavanth Kesari, Tiger Nageswara Rao. The film managed to do decent business at the box office. It subsequently made its way to OTT within a month, having got Zee Network on board as satellite and digital partner. And now, Ghost is ready to come to TV screens. Zee Kannada’s Sankranti special presentation is Karunada Chakravarthy Shivarajkumar’s Ghost on January 15 at 4 pm, as it makes its world television premiere.
Ghost, in keeping with the genre, is a no-nonsense thriller that has no elements to deviate from the central theme. The film follows a story that unfolds over 48 hours at a prison. Years ago, a huge stash of gold was hidden away in a block of this prison, which a group has targeted and attempts to smuggle out. During the heist operation, besides the prisoners, a former CBI officer is also held hostage. To secure his freedom and that of the entire prison block, officer Chengappa (Jayaram) is entrusted with the negotiations, and it is then that he realizes who he is up against – dreaded gangster Dalavayi Muddanna.
Ghost, according to Srinivas, is the first film in a cinematic universe he intends to create with this franchise and his Birbal movies. The Birbal films were initially meant to be a trilogy, of which only one has come out, but the Srinivas Cinematic Universe gives him scope to extend it to more parts. For now, Srinivas is looking at doing Birbal 2 and then Ghost 2, although fans have asked the makers to consider a spin-off with the Dalavayi Muddanna character as well.
