MG Srinivas is adapting the Japanese bestseller Totto Chan: The Little Girl at the Window as Geetha Shivarajkumar’s third production venture

On November 14, director MG Srinivas will officially announce his next directorial, with the title reveal. During the promotions of his last film, Ghost, which had Century Star Shivarajkumar in the lead, the filmmaker had said that he was collaborating with the actor’s home banner on a children’s film based on a Japanese novel that was a personal favourite of Geetha Shivarajkumar.
At the time, sources confirmed to OTTplay that Srinivas was working on adapting the Japanese bestseller Totto Chan: The Little Girl at the Window. And now, the filmmaker has added that Shivarajkumar will be a part of the film in what he describes as an ‘adorable’ role. According to a source, the film’s tentative title was Dodavra Yella Janaralla, which may be changed to RK Sir. Official announcement will occur on the occasion of Children’s Day. The team is said to have shot a promo for the film with the children at the actor’s NGO Shaktidama.
Totto Chan: The Little Girl at the Window is an autobiographical memoir written by Japanese television personality and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Tetsuko Kuroyanagi, published in 1981. The book follows the values of the unconventional education that Kuroyanagi received during World War II at Tomoe Gakuen, a Tokyo elementary school founded by educator Sosaku Kobayashi.
Shivarajkumar is, meanwhile, in the midst of promoting his next release, Bhairathi Ranagal, the prequel to Mufti, which will release in theatres on November 15. Following the release, the actor is expected to head to the US for a month as part of the treatment of an ailment he is battling. Shivarajkumar is set to have surgery, and will need a month’s recovery time. He is expected to resume work in February 2025. He will then resume work on his untitled 131st film, and will also can his portions in Ram Charan’s 16th.
