Karataka Damanaka is special on many fronts. It is Yogaraj Bhat’s first film with Shivarajkumar. The filmmaker has brought Prabhudeva back to Kannada cinema and got him to do a full-fledged role in his film about two conmen. And, most importantly, he got Prabhudeva to choreograph a song featuring Shivarajkumar, who is quite the prolific dancer. Karataka Damanaka is releasing in theatres on March 8, in the run-up to which, the Century Star has been busy promoting the film.
Talking to a Kannada digital platform about the experience of being choreographed by Prabhudeva for the song Meetadena Veene, Shivarajkumar said what he liked most about the actor-choreographer-filmmaker is that his style of dance is a mix of multiple genres. Moreover, Prabhudeva strength, he says, is that he plans his choreography in a way that it is just apt for the song.
Stating that he thoroughly enjoyed working with Prabhudeva on the film and the song in particular, Shivarajkumar said, “Just because he’s got an actor who can dance well, he will not force fit moves to exploit that talent. He will only use elements that have a value add to the tune, the lyrics, and whoever is associated with the song. There aren’t many choreographers who keep all of this in mind while working on a song. Prabhudeva is one such.”
The actor adds that it was a dream to work with Prabhudeva and he feels lucky that he finally got the opportunity. Incidentally, when the romantic number Meetadena Veene was planned, Prabhudeva requested Yogaraj to allow him to choreograph it. This song, he reckoned, needed to be stylish, smooth and classy. All other songs, including a dance number featuring Prabhudeva and Nishvika Naidu have been choreographed by Bhushan master. Meetadena has been written by Yogaraj and composed by V Harikrishna.
