Historical films based on some of most iconic names are a common thing in Indian cinema. Sherr Shivraaj is one of the latest such movies to hit theatres. The latest news is that the Marathi historical drama is now streaming on OTT.
The Official social media handles of Amazon Prime Video have shared the news with its users that the film is out on their platform. “The story of the mightiest ruler #SherrShivraajOnPrime, watch now! (sic),” wrote Amazon Prime Video India in a tweet, which was accompanied by a poster of the movie.
The movie, which stars Chinmay Mandlekar in the titular role, is about an important chapter from the history of Shivaji Maharaj’s reign. The movie is a retelling of how the Maratha King defeated Afzal Khan during the Adilshahi rule of Maharashtra.
Sherr Shivraaj is the fourth in a series of movies, which are all based on Chhatrapati Shivaji’s life and journey. Farzand, Fatteshikast and Pawankhind are the previous movies of this series.
While Mandlekar essays the role of the great king, Mukesh Rishi plays the role of Khan. The movie also features Mrinal Kulkarni, Ajay Purkar, Bipin Surve, Rohan Mankani and others in important roles.
Bankrolled by Mumbai Movie Studios, Rajwarsa Productions and Mulakshar Productions, the movie is directed by Digpal Lanjekar.
“Shivaji Maharaj is one of the greatest kings of India and his life is etched with such unforgettable and historically-important accounts that I am glad we get to collaborate with Amazon Prime Video and reach out to not just Marathi audiences but history-lovers globally,” the director said about the movie’s digital release in a press release.
The Marathi movie had its theatrical release earlier in April and had an impressive opening week, reportedly collecting Rs. 4 crore at the box office. The movie also made history by releasing its trailer in the Metaverse, becoming the first Marathi film to do so.
