Rajashekar, ever since he scored a surprise hit with Praveen Sattaru's PSV Garudavega, has been quite careful with his script choices. Kalki and Shekar have been the only films he has signed in almost four years and it shows that the actor wants to take up a project only if he fully believes in it. Jeevitha Rajashekar has written the screenplay and directed Shekar, the Malayalam remake of the cop drama Joseph, that originally starred Joju George, Dileesh Pothan, Irshad, Athmiya Rajan and Johny Antony.
While Athmiya Rajan reprises her role from the original in the Telugu remake too, George Reddy actress Muskaan Kubchandani is cast as another lead. Abhinav Gomatam, Kannada Kishore, Sameer, Bharani, Ravi Varma and Shravan Raghavendra play supporting roles. Shivani Rajashekar, the daughter of Rajashekar, will also be seen in the film. Shekar is slated to release in theatres on May 20. Kinnera and Love Gante, two singles from the film composed by noted composer Anup Rubens, released to decent responses from music enthusiasts.
The theatrical trailer of Shekar will be launched on May 5, the makers of Shekar announced today. "It鈥檚 almost time to unveil the story of the man with the scar #Shekar with #ShekarTrailer 馃挜 Coming on May 5锔忊儯th!!馃 #ShekarOnMay20," they tweeted. The announcement was made along with a poster where an intense Rajashekar is in his bearded avatar amid a lush-green backdrop. Shekar is the 91st film in the career of Rajashekar.
The cop drama is produced by Beeram Sudhakara Reddy, Shivani Rajashekar, Shivathmika Rajashekar, and Boggaram Venkata Srinivas under Pegasus Cinecorp, Taurus Cinecorp, Sudhakar Impex IPL, and Tripura Creations and presented by Vankayalapati Murali Krishna. Muthyala Ramdass of Venkata Sai Films has acquired the distribution rights of Shekar and is confident of its result. Mallikarjun Naragani has cranked the camera with Lakshmi Bhupala writing the dialogues. Sampath is the art director.
