Sharmiela Mandre on Powder: I was scared to take up role because…

Sharmiela Mandre’s next release is Powder, a comedy directed by Gultoo fame Janardhan Chikkanna and produced by KRG Studios and The Viral Fever as their first collaborative effort. The film revolves around a consignment of drugs disguised as talcum powder landing in the hands of a bunch of youngsters, who try to sell it and make a quick buck, with the rightful owners of these goods hot in pursuit. Sharmiela’s exact role in the larger scheme of things is still unclear, but what is, is that the actress gets to kick ass in the film.

In fact, this was also the reason Sharmiela was not sure whether to take up the role. “I was scared, because at least 4-5 scenes involve action sequences. And while I’d always wanted a role with action that would allow me to challenge myself, it had to be with the right team. I struck lucky with Powder. Janardhan and the cinematographers played a major role in shooting my portions aesthetically. I could not just look like a lady don and have a body double do the stunts. So, I told the team that I’d like to train for the role, as it would look good in the film,” says the actress.

Sharmiela adds that besides joining a stellar cast that includes Diganth, Dhanya Ramkumar, Anirudh Acharya, Nagabhushan, Rangayana Raghu and Gopalkrishna Deshpande, among others, the fact that the film is a KRG and TVF collaboration made being part of it like hitting jackpot. The actress specifically called out actor Diganth, with whom she has done multiple films over the last 15 odd years, as well as Rangayana Raghu, adding that it is always a pleasure working with the veteran actor.

Besides her initial scepticism about taking on an action-packed role, Sharmiela says that her first impression of the script was that it would be difficult to execute. But that is a department that Janardhan excelled in, making Powder an interesting watch. Powder releases in theatres on August 23.
