Amazon Prime Video dropped the official trailer for Sharmaji Namkeen today. The film marks the late Rishi Kapoor's last on-screen appearance.

Interestingly, Paresh Rawal also stars in the film as the titular character. He was roped in to finish the film and continue the story after Kapoor's passing.

The trailer opens with BG Sharma, a 58-year old widower, and a middle-class man, living in West Delhi, trying to find ways to keep himself occupied after retirement to the point that even his son has begun noticing this change.

Turns out Sharmaji has a culinary superpower, and his friend played by Satish Kaushik encourages him to cater a small party.

The trailer also shows Sharmaji discovering a possible second love, and conflict with his son, who probably did not approve of his father's new profession as a cook.

Sharmaji Namkeen is directed by Hitesh Bhatia from a script co-written by him and Supratik Sen. The film also stars Juhi Chawla, Suhail Nayyar, Taaruk Raina, Isha Talwar, Sheeba Chadha and Ayesha Raza Mishra.

This film will see Kapoor and Chawla on screen together after quite a long time. The two have previously worked on films like Bol Radha Bol, Eena Meena Deeka and Daraar.

Prior to the trailer release of Sharmaji Namkeen, Kapoor's son Ranbir had shared a special video where he thanked Rawal for taking over. "Sharmaji Namkeen will always be my one of the fondest memories of my father. Up on the screen, bringing a smile to his countless fans," said Ranbir.

Sharmaji Namkeen is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment in association with filmmaker Honey Trehan and Abhishek Choubey under their banner MacGuffin Pictures.

The film releases on Amazon Prime Video on March 31.
