Anupam Mittal, the founder and CEO of Shaadi.com, has never been one to shy away from sharing his valuable insights about the business world on Shark Tank India’s stage. But even after the first season ended, Mittal made sure to keep giving away gems of wisdom to fans whenever he could. The businessman recounted a story from his entrepreneurship journey where he found himself in debt, after having made millions. But an important mindset of his helped him turn his fortune around.

The businessman took to his LinkedIn page to share a snippet of an interview he had with Raj Shamani. In the clip, Mittal recalled how he had become a multi millionaire in his early 20s, after the dot-com bubble, or the dot-com boom that started in the late 1990s and continued till the early 2000s. The businessman said that during that period, his company had become worth almost $ 40 billion, adding that he had even bought a Ferrari with the money. When the dot com crash happened just after, Mittal had lost all the money he had earned, and he and his investors found themselves in debt. “I had become successful and lost it all”, he said.

But despite the experience, Mittal’s risk taking ability had not reduced, which he said was the case even today. Comparing himself to a poker player, the businessman said that he liked to go ‘all in’. After bouncing back, Mittal and his partners decided to start Sagahi.com, and later Shaadi.com. They had $30,000 to their names, and starting Shaadi.com would cost them at least $ 25,000. People had called Mittal ‘pagal’ for choosing to take such a big risk, but the businessman had believed it could be a ‘gamechanger’. In the end his ‘poker mentality’ had helped to change his fortune.
