Shark Tank India has made the judges on the show into household names, turning them into well-known stars in the country over the course of the show’s highly successful first season. But it seems that one of the sharks, MamaEarth co-founder Ghazal Alagh, had reservations on being a part of the show initially.
In a conversation with Raj Shamani, Alagh opened up about how she came to be a part of the show when the makers started a conversation with her through email. The businesswoman said that as she was pregnant at the time and wanted to take things slow. She wanted to stay away from the PR side for a while to focus on her business. Although she had refused the offer to be on the show the first few times, it was her husband Varun who finally convinced her.
Varun, who was also a part of the interview, added another hilarious reason why he thought Alagh was hesitant to say yes. He said that Alagh was worried about how she would have to invest huge sums of money on the spot when contestants pitched their ideas. “There was that middle class DNA which was at work also,” he added.
He also talked about how the fact that sharks cannot go back on the commitments they made on the show, made things all the more risky. Alagh then opened up about how there were some products on the show, she regrets investing in.
Shark Tank India is available to stream on SonyLIV.
