Every bespectacled Indian would be familiar with Lenskart, one of the biggest eyewear retail chains in the country. One of the men behind the company Peyush Bansal, recently appeared on the Indian version of the popular business reality show, Shark Tank, and quickly became a fan-favourite for his emphatic way to address the entrepreneurs he believed in, and the considerate bits of advice that he gives to those he chose not to invest for.

Born in 1985 in New Delhi, Bansal completed his schooling at Don Bosco School after which he went on to earn degrees from McGill University in Canada and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore.

Before he made a splash in the business world, Bansal had been employed as a Program Manager at Microsoft for almost a year in 2007, after which he returned to India to try his hand at becoming an entrepreneur. As he had mentioned on Shark Tank, Bansal had started previous businesses before he struck gold with Lenskart. The businessman had created the online portal searchmycampus.com, which served as an informational website for college and university students. He then registered his company Valyoo Technologies Pvt Limited.

In 2010, Bansal founded Lenskart along with Amit Chaudhary and Sumeet Kapahi. Although the company initially started as a contact lens seller online, it expanded to different kinds of eyewear sold in stores across India. It is now one of the fastest-growing eyewear retail chains in the country. Bansal presently serves as the CEO of Lenskart, in addition to investing in different business ventures that strike a chord with him.

The net worth of the 36-year-old, according to GQ, is about Rs 600 crore. He is interested in human capital, organisational development, and financial relations. The businessman also enjoys watching movies, travelling, reading books and listening to audiobooks.

Shark Tank India can be streamed on SonyLIV.
