Shark Tank India 2's season finale features actor-turned-entrepreneur Parul Gulati, who rose to fame with roles in shows like Girls Hostel, Haq Se, Illegal - Justice, and Out of Order. Although the sharks were impressed with her brand, netizens were quick to criticise the show for relying on influencers to increase TRP.
In the teaser for the show, Parul stated that she created her brand for girls with less money and hair, impressing Anupam Mittal when she claimed that her company made a 30% profit.
Parul asked for a Rs 1 crore investment for 2% equity, and Vineeta Singh and Aman Gupta offered her Rs 1 crore for 3% in equity, sparking a negotiation battle between the sharks when Amit Jain offered Parul Rs 1 crore for 2% equity.
Parul shared her excitement for appearing on the show, saying, "I've been watching Shark Tank US for a while, and I've always dreamt of pitching my business ideas to the sharks. But when I first launched Nish Hair, I couldn't have imagined being in front of someone, asking for investment."
She added that started her company without attending business school and developed a solution that removes the struggles with hair issues.
However, her appearance on the show caused controversy on the internet, with some netizens claiming that the show was scripted, contradicting the premise on which it was founded. Users criticised the show for not helping new and small emerging entrepreneurs who genuinely needed help.
One user wrote, “Yaar she is already famous and doing well… you guys should help New and Small emerging Entrepreneurs who genuinely need your help! #sharktankindia you really need to do better”. Another wrote, “I wish we could showcase actual small businesses and people who actually have insufficient funds, aren’t famous on social media, have no business connections. We need something raw and real.”
Parul Gulati made appearances on the TV shows P.O.W.- Bandi Yuddh Ke in 2017 and Haq Se in 2018, gaining recognition for her part in the web series Girls Hostel.
