Director Shankar, who turned heads with grandeur in his films like Gentleman, Kadhalan, Indian, Jeans and Anniyan, went on to grab national attention like never before with Sivaji (streaming on Amazon Prime Video), which witnessed his first collaboration with Rajinikanth. The movie which released in 2007 went on to become a huge blockbuster and smashed several records of the star's previous films by a huge margin.

On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the big budget film, Shankar met Rajinikanth at the latter's residence and posted a picture featuring the two from his Twitter page.

He tweeted, "Elated to have met our Sivaji the Boss @rajinikanth sir himself on this very memorable day marking #15yearsofSivaji Your Energy, Affection and Positive Aura made my day (sic)." The film which has Vivekh, Sriya Saran, Suman, Vadivukkarasi and Manivannan playing lead roles was released in a record number of theatres in many territories including Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.

Sivaji was the first Tamil film which featured in the UK top 10 charts in its first week of release. The movie was released in Europe, USA, Canada, Australia, Middle East, Singapore, Malaysia and Sri Lanka. It was also the first Kollywood movie to be colour graded in 4K resolution.

Shankar and Rajinikanth later united for Enthiran and 2.0 in 2010 and 2018 respectively. The former, too, went on to become a gargantuan blockbuster while the latter, despite receiving mixed reviews, grossed impressive figures with its Tamil, Telugu and Hindi versions.

Rajinikanth's next outing Thalaivar 169 is with Nelson Dilipkumar while Shankar's next project RC 15 has Ram Charan playing the lead. The former's shooting is yet to begin while the latter has completed a couple of schedules. Both the films are expected to release in theatres in 2023.
