In the first weekend of the Shanghai Masters 2024, 32 men will be on court fighting for a chance to move ahead and stay in the tournament. The ATP Masters 1000 tournament began on October 2 in Shanghai, the day the China Open final played out between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. Both of these top seeds were also headed to Shanghai and had barely any breather before beginning their campaign at this tournament.

The only concession that the top seeds got was that they had first round byes and hence, took the court only in the Round of 64 starting on October 4 and continuing on October 5 too. As of now, 4-time Shanghai Masters champion Novak Djokovic, who is playing the tournament after 5 years, is in the Round of 32, as also are Daniil Medvedev, Jannik Sinner, Ben Shelton, Alcaraz, Tommy Paul, Alejandro Tabilo, Stefanos Tsitsipas, among others.

The 2025 calendar’s first major event is the Australian Open, scheduled to be held from January 12, 2025.
