With the worsening situation of the pandemic, the fate of many films scheduled for a theatrical release looks dire. Many filmmakers have delayed releases of much-awaited films, and in such a situation a digital release seemingly offers a way out of the quagmire.
The Yash Raj Films production Shamshera is one highly anticipated film of the year, with its release slated for March 18. The director Karan Malhotra recently opened up about the makers’ plans for the film’s release, given the pandemic uncertainties.
In a conversation with India Today, Malhotra said that it was still too early to take a decision on the film’s release given the uncertainty of the present pandemic situation. Expressing his hope that the film would release soon, he said that the project hadn’t entered the promotional and PR stage just yet and that he could only say anything regarding its release when it did.
The filmmaker also opened up about whether or not the film would go in for an OTT release. Malhotra said that it was entirely up to the discretion of producer Aditya Chopra, calling the latter one of the most active producers ever. Malhotra also expressed his gratitude on getting to work with Chopra, and talked about how he fully trusted the latter’s judgment.
Shamshera had witnessed snags in its production and had delayed its release previously due to the difficulties brought about by the pandemic.
Touted to be a period action drama, the film also features Vaani Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt. The latter will essay the role of the antagonist, while Kapoor will be seen in the film in a double role.
