Sanjay Dutt has channelled his inner villain yet again for Shamshera, in which he essays the role of the menacing Shuddh Singh. The film will see Dutt’s character face off against Ranbir Singh’s Balli. In a recently released BTS video, the makers of the film have given viewers a glimpse into making Shuddh Singh look as villainous as possible.
In the video the film’s director Karan Malhotra talked about how he wanted to present the character, whom he describes as a ‘megalomanic’, in the most ‘menacing’ and ‘unnerving’ way possible. The name was also chosen as a stark contrast to Singh’s personality. Dutt talked about how he had tried to represent the director’s interpretation of the character as best as he could. He added that he had also given some suggestions for the character which he felt ‘enhanced’ it. Dutt’s co-star Kapoor spoke of how hard the former worked on the character.

Sharing the video on his official Instagram handle, Dutt wrote“One of the most interesting villains I have played… see a glimpse of my Shamshera journey”. Yash Raj Films, who produce the film, also shared the video with the caption “Every story is incomplete without the villain, meet our brilliant villain Daroga Shuddh Singh! Watch how @duttsanjay morphed into this character”.
The upcoming film marks Kapoor’s return to the big screen after almost three years. Interestingly, the actor’s last onscreen appearance had been in the film Sanju, a biographical drama based on Dutt’s life in which Kapoor essayed the titular character.
Shamshera also stars Vaani Kapoor in a prominent role. The film is scheduled for release on July 22, 2022.
Dutt was last seen sharing the screen with Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chhillar in Samrat Prithviraj. The actor’s upcoming releases include Ghudchadi, directed by Binoy Gandhi.
