King of Kotha is an highly-anticipated Malayalam film, helmed by Abhilash Joshiy, with Dulquer Salmaan in the lead. The movie has already bagged the highest digital rights deal in the history of Malayalam cinema. Veteran actor Shammi Thilakan is playing Dulquer’s father in the film. In a recent interview, he said that King of Kotha will be “royal and big” in every aspect.
“I cannot speak anything yet about my character, Kotha Ravi, but the film won’t be an ordinary picture. The set of the movie was huge. Abhilash is a good director. His class was proven in the film Paappan, in which he worked as a co-director. He comes from the school of his father Joshiy, who is still a master craftsman,” Shammi told The Cue Studio.
Speaking about Dulquer’s performance in the movie, Shammi said, “He has done a lot of hard work in this movie. I happened to watch a few scenes during my dubbing and got excited. I am talking about a movie that hasn’t finished its final editing. It is raw footage and still was able to excite me.”
Meanwhile, Shammi will also appear in Vilayath Buddha, and have two different get-ups in the film. Earlier, Prithviraj Sukumaran, who essays the main character in the film, was injured during the shoot.
King of Kotha is a gangster mass entertainment movie, set in the backdrop of a fictional place called Kotha. It is written by Abhilash N Chandran, who penned Porinju Mariyam Jose. The teaser of the movie is already a hit and shattered the record for the highest number of views on a single day for a Malayalam promo.
Along with Dulquer and Shammi, the movie also features Aishwarya Lekshmi, Chemban Vinod Jose, Nyla Usha, Anikha Surendran and Gokul Suresh. Zee Studios will be co-producing the movie with Dulquer’s Wayfarer Films. King of Kotha, which marks the highest-budget film of Dulquer’s career, will hit the theatres in August as an Onam release.
