Actress Shamita Shetty is perhaps best known among audiences as a prominent figure in the Indian reality scene. The star was a strong contender in Bigg Boss OTT and Bigg Boss 15, emerging as a finalist on both versions of the reality show. Shamita, who has always been vocal about her mental health issues, recently shared some of the struggles she had.
In conversation with her sister Shilpa Shetty, for Filmy Mirchi, Shamita remarked that she “didn’t know what she was thinking” when she decided to participate in Bigg Boss, knowing she struggled with her mental health. She talked about how she had “extreme highs and lows” in the house. “I don’t know how I managed to put myself together and move on,” she said.
Shamita shared that one of the biggest things that helped her was her past experiences. Saying depression “made her stronger” and gave her the courage to take on challenges, she said that if she could conquer that, she could overcome anything.
Shamita recalled the first time she experienced depression, recounting how she was unaware of what she was feeling. She could not understand why she felt or acted that way, and said she felt very “lost”. The actress talked about how important it was for people to “own up” to it when they find themselves going through such a phase and how crucial it was that they get support from their families.
Even people who couldn't count on their close ones should take responsibility to seek help for themselves and talk about what they are going through, said Shamita, adding awareness plays an important role in overcoming the illness. Hearing Shamita’s struggles, Shilpa added that she felt “proud” of her sister.
Bigg Boss 15 and Bigg Boss OTT are available to stream on Voot.
