Shaktimaan, the superhero so many ’90s kids in the country grew up watching, is gearing up to make a comeback to the silver screen soon. The announcement of the comeback of one of India’s first-ever superheroes, who many nostalgic viewers would definitely agree, can hold a candle to even Superman and it obviously elicited very strong reactions indeed. Twitter erupted with fans, who still hold the iconic show dear to their hearts, expressing their excitement for the upcoming films.
Twitter was rife with posts from fans absolutely delirious with happiness at the news. While some fans called the superhero ‘loved’ and ‘iconic’, another remarked how a movie on him had not been made as yet.
When it came to reactions, ’90s kids seemed to lead the pack, some of them practically going giddy over the news. Thanking Sony Pictures International Productions for bringing back the show, they talked about how nostalgic the news had made them, with one person even saying they were moved to tears at the announcement. Some users even expressed their joy in the form of some witty memes, dedicated to ’90s kids.
A lot of users were elated at how their childhoods were ‘coming back’ along with Shaktimaan, with some again getting teary-eyed.
Some users pointed to the immense potential the idea had, saying that if done right, the upcoming film trilogy could have what it takes to rival even Marvel or DC. Another said that it could mark a ‘revolutionary’ phase in Indian cinema’s foray into the superhero genre.
Among the clamour of optimistic and excited voices, there were also comments made about how lacklustre the new teaser seemed, with a user claiming that they were not excited and they would rather wait for the full trailer to be unveiled.
Mukesh Khanna had essayed the iconic superhero on the Doordarshan show. His banner, Bheeshm International, will also be involved with The Sony Pictures International Productions and Brewing Thoughts Private Limited to work on the feature.
