Shakeela maker Indrajit Lankesh to launch his son Samarjit

Kannada filmmaker Indrajit Lankesh, whose last directorial was the Shakeela biopic starring Richa Chaddha in the lead, has been on a break of sorts, focusing instead on his role as publisher of a newspaper and digital channel. Turns out, Indrajit was just biding his time, as his older son Samarjit prepared himself for his big-screen debut. The strapping young lad, has been in training for a while at the New York Film Academy, honing his acting, dancing and fighting skill sets – pre-requisites for being a leading man in cinema.

According to the latest reports, the father-son duo is now ready to begin working on the latter’s launchpad. Indrajit, we hear, has zeroed in on a real-life incident that he’s fleshed out into a script for a commercial entertainer. The ‘Star director’, though, was hoping to announce his son’s debut with much fanfare, after a special photo shoot along with leading lady and Bigg Boss Kannada 9 contestant Saanya Iyer. But the news leaked before he could put this plan in action. When we checked in with the filmmaker, he confirmed the development and said that a formal announcement would follow shortly. The launch event is expected to be held on September 4.

Talking about casting Saanya, Indrajit said that the Puttagowri Maduve fame actress is not only good looking with great screen presence, but also has impeccable hold over the Kannada language, which was the clincher. Meanwhile, Indrajit’s last Kannada film was Luv U Alia, which was the big-screen debut of actor Chandan. The filmmaker had introduced Ek Shringaar -Swabhiman fame Sangeita Chauhan in Kannada cinema and brought Sunny Leone for a special number in the film. It is expected that Indrajit will up the ante and go all out for his son’s launchpad.
