Shahid Kapoor on OTT vs theaters debate ahead of Deva's release: 'Audience now very well knows...'

Shahid Kapoor is gearing up for the release of Deva in theaters. Directed by Rosshan Andrrews, the film promises to bring solid action-packed sequences. Ahead of the release, Shahid discussed the OTT vs. theaters debate and pointed out the uniqueness of big screen experiences. He also talked about how audiences can watch long-form content which can be six, seven, or eight hours long on OTT because they watch it at frequent intervals.

Shahid Kapoor talks about OTT vs theaters

In an interview with India Today, Shahid said that experiencing something on the big screen has its magic and it is important to note that what you can offer the audience on the big screen, they can see on a smaller screen as well OTT just without the same impact. As per him, this is the thing the audience is learning to discern.

He continued, “The audience now very well knows that they can watch any film at home, and they won’t get anything extra in theatres experientially. However, there are some things that you can best experience in a theatre. I think as content creators, it is very important for us to understand that now there are two different platforms and formats."

Shahid elaborated that the audience can see long-form content on OTT which can be six, seven, or eight hours because they watch it at frequent intervals. They sometimes watch half an episode and pause it too. But when they are watching a movie in theaters, it will happen in two halves. 

Shahid Kapoor on drawing the audience to the theaters

Kapoor also said that when one watches a trailer, he should feel that he needs to see this in the theatre.

"Whether you are a filmmaker, writer, or an actor, you should know that your job is to create content that will draw the audience to the theatre because they always have a choice to sit at home and watch it. That intent should be in me while creating a film," he said. 

Deva cast

The film casts Shahid Kapoor as police officer Dev Ambre. Pooja Hedge plays the role of Diya. Deva's star cast also includes Pavail Gulati, Girish Kulkarni, Kubbra Sait, and others.

As per reports, Deva will be available for streaming on Netflix after its theatrical run ends. 

Meanwhile, Shahid Kapoor's Deva will be released in theaters on January 31.
