2023 will be called the year of Shah Rukh Khan, and there is no exaggeration in saying so. The actor kickstarted the year with Pathaan and brought a tsunami of audience back to the cinema halls. In September, we saw him returning to the big screen for the second time with Jawan, and was back at breaking and creating records. Turns out he has now achieved a new feat with one of the highest footfalls garnered.
Jawan, starring Shah Rukh in the lead, is directed by Atlee and also stars Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani, and Deepika Padukone in a special appearance. Released on September 7, 2023, the movie went on to be a success story at the box office and was soon a hit with many records in its kitty.
Interestingly, it still is in the theatres even after its OTT premiere on Netflix. What is more interesting is that the movie is still finding an audience in theatres and is earning well. With the same, it has now broken yet another record and has garnered one of the highest footfalls in Hindi cinema. Read on to know more.
According to the post on X (formerly called Twitter), by Trade Analyst Sumit Kadel, Jawan’s lifetime theatrical footfalls now stand at a staggering 3.92 crores and is one of the highest ever in the history of Hindi Cinema. And it is still in the cinemas despite of the OTT release and competition from other big releases. Sumit also mentions the current total collection that stands at Rs 643.89 Cr domestically, making it the highest-grosser of all time in the history of Hindi cinema.
The worldwide collection of Jawan is now on a monstrous Rs 1151.73 cr. Shah Rukh Khan has achieved a massive feat with this one and is now gearing up for his third release of the year. After Jawan, he will be seen sharing screen space with Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal in Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki, releasing on December 22, 2023. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more.
