To celebrate 30 years of Karan Arjun, the makers are set to bring the film back on the big screens. The film is set for its worldwide re-release and fans can’t wait to experience the iconic film on the big screens. Ahead of its re-release, director and producer, Rakesh Roshan reveals how Shah Rukh Khan had initially backed out from the film and was replaced by Aamir Khan. After Ajay Devgn left the film, Salman Khan had also been brought on board. Here’s everything you need to know!
In an interview with SCREEN, Rakesh Roshan revealed that when he initially talked about Karan Arjun, nobody except him and his dialogue writer believed in the project. He also mentioned that two distributors left the project when he first announced the film as it had two romantic heroes and not action heroes. He then said that it was the audience who made it a hit film later.
Further talking about how Ajay Devgn and SRK walked out of the film, Rakesh Roshan said, “Only Ajay can answer as to why he backed out from Karan Arjun. Even Shah Rukh had left the film. He wanted to play the role that Ajay was playing and vice versa, they wanted to change their respective images. But I said I was not making this film to change their images, it’s a story that required them to be what they were.”
The filmmaker then approached Aamir Khan and Salman Khan for the film, however, SRK then came back saying he wanted to work on this project as he was signed by Rakesh Roshan for his first project King Uncle. Shah Rukh told the filmmaker, ’I couldn’t sleep at night, and even though I don’t believe in the story, I will still work with you. I have full conviction.’ “Then I told Aamir that I had SRK’s dates from the next month so let me start with him, and Aamir agreed,” Roshan revealed.
Meanwhile, Karan Arjun is set to re-release in theatres on November 22, 2024. Produced by Rakesh Roshan's FilmKraft Production, the iconic film stars Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, Rakhee, Kajol, Mamta Kulkarni, and Amrish Puri. Upon its theatrical release in 1995, the film was a box office success and also became one of the year's highest-grossing films.
