In the recently released documentary The Roshans, Shah Rukh Khan shared heartfelt reflections on Hrithik Roshan's early days in the film industry. Recalling their time together when Hrithik assisted on film sets, Khan remarked, "I had spent a lot of time with Hrithik. He used to assist in films. I said, 'He's very handsome.' Obviously, Duggu is very, very handsome, off and on camera."

Shah Rukh Khan's astonishment at Hrithik Roshan's dance skills

Khan expressed his astonishment upon witnessing Hrithik's dance prowess, particularly during the iconic Ek Pal Ka Jeena song from Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai. He shared, "To be one of the biggest superstars in the history of Indian cinema is mind-boggling. And when that song began to play… (hums Ek Pal Ka Jeena). When I saw him, I was shocked he could dance like that. That is something I didn’t know."

Reflecting on Hrithik's debut performance, Khan noted, "It was his first film, so obviously, he must be nervous; he must be searching things, finding things. And to come out, as if he's been working in films for ten years."

SRK and Hrithik shared screen space in Karan Johar's Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... released in 2001.

Hrithik Roshan's early exposure to cinema

Hrithik Roshan's journey in cinema began long before his debut as a leading actor. As a child, he made uncredited appearances in family film projects, including his grandfather J. Om Prakash's Aasha (1980) and Aap Ke Deewane (1980). His only speaking role during this period was in Bhagwaan Dada (1986), where he portrayed Govinda, the title character's adopted son. Despite these early experiences, his father, Rakesh Roshan, insisted he focus on his studies before pursuing acting full-time.

After completing his education, Hrithik assisted his father on several films, including Khudgarz (1987), King Uncle (1993), Karan Arjun (1995), and Koyla (1997). During this time, he performed various tasks on set, from sweeping floors to serving tea, while keenly observing industry veterans. He would often reenact scenes from Koyla, filming himself to evaluate his performance and hone his craft.

Hrithik's dedication culminated in his breakthrough with Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (2000), directed by his father. The film was a massive success, earning Hrithik widespread acclaim and multiple awards.
