While the 2023 Bollywood roster has been filled with films from varied genres, interesting directors, and some great performances, all eyes have been on the three Shah Rukh Khan releases that technically served as milestones scattered across the year. While Pathaan brought him back after a hiatus of half a decade, Jawan proved why he is here to stay. On to Dunki now, we are all geared up to see the SRK magic unfold yet again. But before that, what if we tell you that Dunki and Farah Khan’s Happy New Year have a connection?
About Dunki and Happy New Year
To give you a hint, Farah Khan, in one of her recent interviews, said that the initial version of Happy New Year resembled the story of Dunki. Yes, you read that right. Directed by Farah, the former stars Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani, and an ensemble. Whereas Dunki, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, stars Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal alongside King Khan.
Now, Farah Khan, when she appeared in Bharti Singh and Harsh Limbachiya’s podcast, has revealed that Shah Rukh Khan rejected the initial version of Happy New Year that she wrote, and she is surprised now that it was so similar to Dunki.
Farah Khan Revealed...
Farah Khan said, “I wrote a version of Happy New Year that Shah Rukh did not like. It is very strange because now I’m watching the promo of Dunki… That Happy New Year was about 4 boys who want to go to America and be tadipaar and the only way they want to do it is if they participate in a dance competition because the finals are in Las Vegas.”
She recalled how Shah Rukh Khan didn’t approve of the script and thought it would look old. She added, “Shah Rukh said, ‘I will look too old; I’m too old to play this young boy.’”
Dunki is set to hit the big screens on December 22, 2023. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more.
