Pleased with the audience's response to the recently-released Tamil mythological thriller Maayon, the makers have announced a sequel to it. Double Meaning Production, the firm that bankrolled the film, took to Twitter to make the announcement.
Sources close to the unit say that the second part could be made on a much bigger scale and will have a pan-Indian release. While the first part revolved around the temple of Lord Vishnu, the second part could revolve around Lord Murugan. OTTplay is unable to confirm whether the same cast and crew of the first part would return for the second or whether it would be an entirely new story.
Bankrolled by the Double Meaning Production banner, Maayon featured Sibi Sathyaraj, Tanya Ravichandran, Hareesh Peradi, and KS Ravikumar in important roles.
The sequel of Maayon is set to release for Diwali 2023, in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam.
Citing it as a poorly executed film, the review of Maayon on OTTplay read, “It is an idea that looks great on paper, but the execution falters.”
In an interview with Cinema Express, Sibi, opened up about his next one, Vattam. “Producer SR Prabhu is one of the best strategists in Tamil cinema and he wanted us to maintain a certain suspense about this one.”
Vattam, directed by Kamalakannan, will premiere on Disney+Hotstar soon. The announcement was made along with the first look poster of the film, a few days ago.
It has music by Nivas K Prasanna and features Athulyaa Ravi in a key role.
Besides, Sibi Sathyaraj will be stepping into Telugu cinema with his upcoming bilingual, directed by Pandiyan Adhimoolam. The actor told Cinema Express, "The film will suit both the Tamil and Telugu audiences. It is a thriller without supernatural elements, and yet, I am confident that certain portions will frighten everyone. I am learning to speak Telugu and it’s exciting to learn a new language."
