Director Senna Hegde struck gold with his debut Malayalam directorial Thinakalazhcha Nishchayam , which won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam and Kerala State Award for Second Best Film. After the overwhelming success of the comedy-drama, the filmmaker has now revealed that he is gearing up for its spin-off.
In a recent interview after the National Award win, Senna said that plans were already in place for the next instalment of Thinkalazcha Nishchayam, which revolved around the incidents that transpired between a Kanhangad-based family ahead of the wedding of the patriarch’s younger daughter.
Talking to Cinema Express, the director said that he was awaiting the response from the audience before he began work on the sequel. The filmmaker said that they have a “bunch of ideas” on how to progress the story. While Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam revolved around the engagement, the sequel will focus on the wedding.
The movie, which was released directly on Sony LIV last October, has Manoj KU, Anagha Narayanan and Ajisha Prabhakaran in pivotal roles. The filmmaker revealed that only a few characters from the original movie will return for the spin-off. Sreeraj Raveendran, who was the film’s cinematographer and co-writer, will be back, he confirmed.
Meanwhile, Senna had recently completed shooting for Sharafudheen’s crime-comedy 1744 White Alto and is busy with its post-production. In an earlier interview with us, Senna had said that the movie has three parallel threads that connect at various stages. “It’s not a serious film. I think my last two movies (Katheyondu Shuruvagide and Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam) have been too realistic and I just wanted to have some fun with this,” he revealed.
The filmmaker will next start work on Padmini, which has Kunchacko Boban and Aparna Balamurali, who was adjudged the Best Actress at this year’s National Awards, as part of the cast. The Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam spin-off will go on floors only after this film.
