Filmmaker Selvaraghavan has shared an exciting update about his next directorial venture, likely to bring joy to fans of Tamil cinema, especially those of star Dhanush. This highly-anticipated update revolves around the possibility of the long-awaited sequel, Pudhupettai 2, hitting the floors soon. "Hopefully PUDHUPETTAI 2 should happen this year!," tweeted Selvaraghavan.

Selvaraghavan played a pivotal role in shaping Dhanush's acting career, and their 2006 gangster drama, Pudhupettai, holds a special place in both their journeys. The film's cult status elevated the stature of both director and actor.

Pudhupettai, a cult classic

Pudhupettai is set against the backdrop of the gritty underworld of Chennai. The movie follows the life of Kokki Kumar, played by Dhanush, as he rises from a slum to become a powerful figure in the criminal underworld.

The film explored the themes of love, betrayal, and revenge, providing an intense and immersive experience for the audience. Dhanush's performance, particularly as Kokki Kumar, showcased his early career brilliance, capturing the intricate complexities of the character with conviction.

Pudhupettai captivated the audiences with its raw storytelling and unapologetic depiction of the harsh realities of life in the city. It instantly became a classic and milestone movie in the history of Tamil cinema, while developing a cult following over the years.

Selvaraghavan and Dhanush collaborations

Apart from Pudhupettai, Selvaraghavan's collaborations with Dhanush, such as Kaadhal Kondein and Mayakkam Enna, hold a significant place in Tamil cinema, with the exception of their 2022 outing, Naane Varuven.

Selvaraghavan has taken a brief hiatus from directing while exploring acting opportunities in Tamil cinema. He was last seen in the blockbuster sci-fi comedy Mark Antony, in which he played the role of an eccentric scientist. He has also played a key role in Dhanush's upcoming movie, which has been tentatively titled D50.

D50 is a milestone film in Dhanush's career as it marks his 50th film. He has written and directed the movie, besides playing the lead role in it. The film also features S. J. Suryah, Sundeep Kishan, Nithya Menen and Kalidas Jayaram in key roles.
