Scream VI is finally getting a full-fledged OTT release date in India. The 2023 slasher film is the sixth installment in the Scream series and follows 2022's Scream. It will kick off streaming on Netflix on July 26, 2024. The film is written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick and directed by Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin. Among the returning actors from earlier films are Melissa Barrera, Mason Gooding, Roger L. Jackson, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Hayden Panettiere, and Courteney Cox. Newcomers to the ensemble cast include Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, Liana Liberato, Dermot Mulroney, Devyn Nekoda, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra, and Samara Weaving.

Scream VI plot overview

The story follows a new Ghostface assassin who starts going after the New York City residents who survived the murders in Woodsboro. In the latest part, those who managed to escape the Ghostface murders bid farewell to Woodsboro and embark on a new adventure in the Big Apple. Production on the sixth installment of Scream (2022) began just a few weeks after the fifth part's highly popular premiere. A large portion of the original cast has returned, including Bettinelli-Olpin, Gillett, Vanderbilt, and Busick.

Neve Campbell's absence

This was the first Scream movie without Neve Campbell, who, owing to a salary dispute, declined to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott. In June 2022, news broke that she would not be returning for the sixth film.

In a statement, the actor made reference to the fact that her contract and wage negotiations with Paramount Pictures had halted. Campbell shared that, as a woman, she has had to work extremely hard in her career to establish her value, especially when it comes to Scream. The offer she received did not appear to align with the value she has brought to the franchise. Choosing to move on has been an incredibly challenging task. The actor added that the Scream fans have her undying love. They have consistently shown her tremendous support. She thanked everyone for everything that this franchise has done for her over the last quarter of a century, and she will be eternally grateful.

Box office success and awards

With $169 million worldwide and mostly positive reviews from critics, it became the highest-grossing Scream film in the US and Canada (unadjusted for inflation) and the first installment in the franchise to earn over $100 million at the domestic US box office since Scream 2 (1997). The MTV Movie & TV Awards 2023 gave it the Best Picture trophy, and plans are afoot to create a sequel.
