Subramaniyapuram, which went on to become one of the biggest hit films in Tamil, has inspired many filmmakers, including Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap. The Bollywood filmmaker had said a few times that the movie was the reason which made him come up with Gangs of Wasseypur.
The critically-acclaimed gangster drama marked the directorial debut of Sasikumar who also played a memorable character role in the film which has Jai and Swathi Reddy playing lead roles. The gritty screenplay, flawless performances from actors and James Vasanthan's music were considered prime aspects which made the film a cult classic among cinephiles.
On the occasion of the movie celebrating its 14th year anniversary today, Sasikumar took to Twitter to remember the film and said that the date July 4 will always be special for him. He added that he is humbled with the manner in which people are celebrating the film even after these many years.
Sasikumar also revealed that an update on his next project as a director will be announced soon, leaving his fans excited. Sasi tweeted, "July 4 will always spl to me #Subramaniyapuram was released on this day 14 years ago. It just feels like yesterday. I’m humbled by the way people revere it, until today. Very soon you will hear the news about my Nxt venture, of course, as a filmmaker #14YearsOfSubramaniyapuram (sic)."
Sasi, who went on to act in several films since the humongous success Subramaniyapuram garnered, helmed only one movie later. Fans of the actor-filmmaker and other film lovers have pinned high hopes on his next directorial project, and are eagerly looking forward to it.
Sasi was last seen in Kombu Vatcha Singamda which was released earlier this year. He currently has a few films lined up as an actor like Pagaivanuku Arulvai, Naa Naa, Common Man and Kaari.
