It looks like soon after Pa Ranjith wraps up the shoot for Thangalaan, the director is all set to direct the sequel to Arya's Sarpatta Parambarai next. Arya made the announcement of the sequel on his social media handle and also dropped a picture of himself as a wrestler. The actor wrote, "Are you ready to watch the match? Some furious English boxing." The film will be jointly bankrolled by Pa Ranjith's Neelam Productions along with Arya's production house, The Show People and Jatin Sethi.
Sarpatta Parambarai had Arya playing the boxer Kabilan Chelliah from north Chennai. The actor had undergone a major makeover for the period film and called the role one of the most challenging characters in his career. The film which also starred Pasupathy, Dushara Vijayan, John Kokken, Shabeer Kallarakkal, Anupama Kumar, Sanchana Natarajan and John Vijay, revolved around the boxing fight between two clans, namely Idiyappa Parambarai and Sarpatta Parambarai. The film had a direct release on Amazon Prime Video as it released during the pandemic, and became one of the most loved films of the year. It emerged as the most subscribed film of 2021.
In the meantime, Ranjith is currently shooting his next Thangalaan, which stars Chiyaan Vikram in the lead, along with Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan and Pasupathy. Vikram, who has been regularly sharing pictures from the shooting spot, dropped a few pictures of Pa Ranjith from the set on his social media handle. The plot is set in the pre-independence era against the backdrop of Kolar Gold Fields. Ranjith had said that the film was inspired by a real story and that it was an attempt to reclaim the dignity of a community that has never got its due. Chiyaan Vikram, too, has undergone a makeover for the film and his look has taken the internet by storm. The film is likely to hit screens in the second half of the year.
