Karthi's much-awaited Diwali release Sardar finally hit screens today. The film, directed by PS Mithran, is a spy thriller that has Karthi playing dual roles. While one is that of a publicity-seeking cop, the other one is that of a spy called Sardar. The film released to much fanfare today and Karthi was spotted in one of the theatres in Chennai earlier this morning. He had also shared a tweet on his social media page, which read, "#Sardar releasing worldwide in theatres today! One of my most ambitious films which is an ode to unsung heroes. Need all your love! @Psmithran @lakku76 (sic)."
Sardar marks the debut of Chunky Pandey in Tamil, who plays a ruthless businessman called Rathore. The film also marks the comeback of Laila after a span of 16 years. Raashi Khanna and Rajisha Vijayan play the leading ladies. The film largely received positive reviews from the audience and critics.
