Kannada filmmakers, it would seem, do not understand the concept of demand and supply. If the current trend of weekly film releases is anything to go by, supply is all that matters to them. Ask random movie-goers and chances are that a majority may not have even heard of some of the films that have been in theatres recently or those that are gearing up to release in the coming days. After the 6 new releases of February 9, they are now prepping to bombard the box office with as many as 10 new films on February 16. Here’s a look at your choices this Friday.
Saramsha
Surya Vasishta directs and acts in this story about a writer and character he’s been developing. Is the writer telling the character’s story or is the character orchestrating his story through the writer? The film also stars Deepak Subramanya, Sruthi Hariharan, Shwetha Gupta, Ravi Bhat, among others.
KTM
Dia fame Dheekshith Shetty gets his first Kannada release in 4 years with KTM, an intense love story that sees the actor sport at least 3 distinctive looks. The romantic drama directed by Aruna, has Sanjana Doss and Kaajal Kunder as the leading ladies, while the supporting cast includes Prakash Thuminad, Shanil Guru, Abhishek Srikanth, Usha Bhandary, Tukali Santhosh, Babu Hirannaiah, etc.
5D
Kannada actor Adityaa’s milestone 25th is a medical crime thriller directed by S Narayan, for whom it is the 50thas a filmmaker. While the official synopsis hints at the film being about a spate of murders that the Karnataka police investigates, the trailer has Aditya dressed like a vigilante with a mask, etc. The film has Aditi Prabhudeva as well, while S Narayan also has a role.
Abbabba
Director KM Chaitanya gives the Malayalam comedy Adi Kapyare Kootamani his spin in this week’s Abbabba, which has Likith Shetty, Amrutha Iyengar, Thandav Ram, Ajay Raj, Anusha Rai, Sharath Lohithashwa, among others, on its cast. In the Malayalam film, the story revolved around the heroine being smuggled into a boys hostel and the difficulties that crop up in getting her out without catching the eye of the strict hostel warden.
Shakhahaari
Rangayana Raghu and Gopalkrishna Deshpande lead this crime thriller about a murder mystery that unfolds in a vegetarian restaurant run by the former’s character, Subbanna. Written and directed by Sandeep Sunkad, Shakhahaari’s cast also includes Nidhi Hegde, Harini Sreekanth, Vinay UJ.
Ravike Prasanga
Geetha Bharati Bhat leads the cast of this drama revolving around a blouse. Geetha plays Sanvi, whose desire to wear a designer blouse to meet a prospective groom goes up in smoke because of the local tailor, whom she then drags to court. Sampath Maitreya, Rakesh Maiya, Suman Ranganathan, Padmaja Rao, etc., are also a part of director Santhosh Kodenkeri’s film.
Ladies Bar
As the title suggests, Ladies Bar is about a ladies’ only bar, which ruffles the feathers of society’s moral police. Can the owner keep his establishment open or will he bow to the pressure of those opposing it. The film has TM Somaraj, Harish Raj, Prerana MJ Gowda, Shivani Gowda, Chitra Gowda, among others on its cast.
Mandya Haida, Dheera Samrat, Alemari E Baduku
There is very little information in the public domain about these three films.
