Within a week of Murder Mubarak on Netflix, Sara Ali Khan is gearing up for the release of yet another film, Ae Watan Mere Watan, on Prime Video. The actor has been releasing multip le films on OTT, and many have received mixed reactions from the audience and critics alike. OTTplay asked Sara in an exclusive interview if the criticism of her work has ever affected her.

Sara Ali Khan's response to criticism

The actor exclusively told us, "I don't mind at all. I like the fact that I'm in a very subjective field. I mean, aapko shayad acha lage ya aapko acha nahi lagega, that's your view. (I mean, maybe you'll like it or maybe you won't; that's your view.) I think firstly, beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. So as long as I know, my vision of the work is my vision of the work, and it shouldn't be tainted by your vision of the work."

Sara further stated, "If I feel I've done an honest and good job, like I feel I did an honest and good job in Atrangi Re, now whether you like it or not is your prerogative. Then sometimes... sabki apni kismat hoti hai na eventually. (Then sometimes, everyone has their own fate eventually.)"

Sara Ali Khan's assertive stance on artistic expression

Moreover, it's been more than five years since Sara made her acting debut with Kedarnath back in 2018. When asked what she doesn't want to do at this point in her career, the actor made it clear that she doesn't want to get into math.

She shared, "I don't want to do some rubbish calculation about what you think I should do. That has been my biggest problem as a performer, as a human being, and as an actor. I do some rubbish math; ke inko yeh dekhna hai, inko sirf mere jokes pasand hai. Aaj maine ek shayari nahi ki; no interviewer is looking bored. Aaj maine ek joke nahi maara, kisi ne pucha bhi nahi, kyunki zaroorat nahi padi. (I do some rubbish math; they only want to see this; they only like my jokes. Today I didn't recite a poem; no interviewer is looking bored. Today I didn't crack a joke; nobody even asked, because there was no need.)"

The Love Aaj Kal actor concluded by saying, "So I think that's you yourself, and it's not just for me; it's for everybody out there. We limit ourselves. We think that this is all I have to offer and no more. I'm not going to do that anymore."

On March 21, 2024, Ae Watan Mere Watan will debut on Prime Video.
