It’s another weekend and that warrants a new set of releases. This week, the theatres are going to witness the release of the Tamil film Vadakkupatti Ramasamy, starring comedian Santhanam in the lead role. The film is set to release on February 2, along with Devil, starring Vidharth, Poorna and others.

Vadakkupatti Ramasamy is directed by Karthik Yogi of Dikkiloona fame. It is to be noted that both titles are derived from veteran comedian Goundamani’s comedy sequences. Backed by People Media Factory, a leading production house in the Telugu film industry, the film also stars Megha Akash, Nizhalgal Ravi, MS Bhaskar, Maaran, Tamil, Naan Kadavul Rajendran, John Vijay, Ravi Mariya, Seshu, Suresh, and Prasanth.

What is Vadakkupatti Ramasamy all about?

The makers of Vadakkupatti Ramasamy released the trailer for the film sometime back. The trailer reveals that the film is a period comedy drama set in 1974 in a "strange village". Just before introducing the protagonist, we are cautioned that he is not the Ramasamy who denied the existence of God (referring to social activist Periyar). It also reveals Santhanam in the titular role. The film is expected to have some black comedy and situational comedy of errors to evoke laughter and restrain its central conflict between atheism and god-believing.

The team behind Vadakkupatti Ramasamy

Vadakkupatti Ramasamy is written and directed by Karthik Yogi, who earlier teamed up with Santhanam for the 2021 science fiction comedy film Dikkiloona. The technical team consists of Sean Roldan composing the music and Deepak cranking the camera. The cinematographer had recently directed and shot the film Witness. T Shivanandeeswaran and A Rajesh are the editor and art director of Vadakkupatti Ramasamy, respectively.

Meanwhile, Santhanam was last seen in the 80s buildup. The actor has also already completed a project under the Murugan-Prem Anand duo's direction. The untitled film is a horror comedy, which is on the lines of Dhilluku Dhuddu and Dhilluku Dhuddu 2. He is also expected to reteam with Karthik Yogi for another film, as per the latest reports.
