Sanju Weds Geetha, the Kannada romantic drama starring Srinagara Kitty and Ramya in the lead, was not only a box office success back in 2011, but also got Ramya a Karnataka State Best Actress award. The film had a tragic end, with both the leads perishing, so, when director Nagshekar announced a sequel with Kitty in the lead, it raised quite a few eyebrows.
The first question that comes up, of course, is if Sanju Weds Geetha 2 a sequel, or if the filmmaker has only used the title for recall value? “That is the surprise element of the film; I believe Part 2 is better than Part 1,” Nagshekar had said at a press briefing after wrapping up principal photography. This time around, he’s got Dimple Queen Rachita Ram to romance Kitty. Ragini Dwivedi, Chetan Chandra, Sadhu Kokila and Rangayana Raghu are also a part of the cast. Kitty, according to reports, plays a silk farmer in the film.
The film, which was meant to be in theatres in April last year, was delayed and is now ready for release. Nagshekar has announced that Sanju Weds Geetha 2 will join the Sankranti/Pongal race at the box office. The film will release on January 10, 2025. As of now, Sharan’s horror comedy Choo Mantar is the other Kannada film vying for a share of the box office during the first festival of the new year.
Sanju Weds Geetha 2, says Nagshekar, is a film made for today’s audience. A musical love story, the filmmaker says that the songs by Sridhar V Sambhram and cinematography by Sathya Hegde will be major pillars of the film. Shot in 72 days, across locations in Bengaluru, with a schedule in Switzerland as well, Sanju Weds Geetha has been produced by Chalapathy Kumar in collaboration with Nagashekar Movies, Pavithra International Movies, and Mahaanandi Creations.
