The anticipation surrounding Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming project, Baiju Bawra, has been building for months. With rumours and speculations circulating, fans have eagerly awaited concrete details about the film. While some information has been confirmed, such as the casting of Ranveer Singh in the titular role and Alia Bhatt as the love interest, Bhansali has kept certain aspects under wraps.
According to a report on Koimoi.com, one aspect that has been revealed is Bhansali's focus on the film's music. Known for his mastery of creating soulful melodies, he has been diligently working on the soundtrack for Baiju Bawra. It is reported that he has already composed 5-6 songs and intends to include a total of 11-12 songs in the film. However, these songs will not be solely based on Hindustani classical music, unlike the original composition by Naushad in the 1952 version.
Bhansali acknowledges the greatness of Naushad Saab's compositions in the original Baiju Bawra and recognizes the challenge of living up to them. He humbly states that he cannot hope to replicate songs like "Mann tarpat hari darshan" and "O duniya ke rakhwale" or find a voice like the legendary Mohammed Rafi. Instead, Bhansali aims to create a version of Baiju Bawra that resonates with contemporary audiences and utilizes the available talent.
Drawing a parallel to his previous work, Bhansali asserts that his Baiju Bawra will be distinct from the original, much like his rendition of Devdas differed from Bimal Roy's interpretation. By infusing his unique artistic vision, Bhansali aims to create a film that pays homage to the original while adding a contemporary touch.
Meanwhile, SLB is currently busy with the post-production of his highly anticipated series Heeramandi on Netflix.
