The Marathi movie Samhita did not perform well at the theatres when it released in 2013, but earned immense praise from the critics, and secured prestigious awards as well. Samhita - a poignant tale

The film narrates a poignant tale as a filmmaker tries to make a movie to fulfill her dying husband’s last wish. The touching performances of the lead cast, the captivating story, and the soulful music are the highlights of this film. The film stars Devika Daftardar, Milind Soman, Rajeshwari Sachdev, Uttara Baokar, and Jyoti Subhash, among others.

The film bagged two National Awards as well. Music composer Shailendra Barve won the National Award for best music direction, while Aarti Ankalikar-Tikekar secured the award for playback singing for the song Palke Na Modo.

Samhita plot

The film is based on a love tale between a film director, Shirin, and her husband, Dinkar, a film producer. Shirin faces old traumas while working on various scripts. She learns that Dinkar, her husband, is not keeping well. Fearing that her husband might die soon, Shirin is on a mission to fulfill her husband’s last wish. Dinkar wants Shirin to direct a film for him.

Dinkar wanted Shirin to make a movie based on his favourite tale, which is about a king and a court singer's passion.

Shirin then approaches fellow filmmaker Revati to help her make the film. Revati, who is also going through a rough patch with her husband, accepts the assignment and begins her research after meeting Tara, a writer. For the role of the court singer, a well-known actress who lives with a painter, is selected.

Every one of these women has a different perspective on how the story (of the film within the film) is developing.
