Actor Rahman, who was once known as a chocolate hero in Malayalam cinema, has returned to Mollywood after a hiatus. The actor will next be seen in the film Samara, which is helmed by debutant Charles Joseph. It is touted as a science fiction investigative thriller centred on forensics.
The first-look poster for Samara was released on the social media pages of actors Nivin Pauly and Tovino Thomas. The poster features Rahman and Tamil actor Bharath.
The makers of Samara had earlier released an announcement poster with the intriguing tagline, “What exactly is Samara? The mystery unfurls soon.” The buzz is that the film is connected with an event that took place during the Second World War. The film derives its title from the Hebrew word samara, which means ‘protected by god.’
Actor Mir Sarwar, who has starred in films like Jolly LLB 2, Bajrangi Bhaaijaan, and Vishwaroopam 2, is debuting in Malayalam films through Samara.
Reports suggest that he plays an anti-hero in the mystery thriller. Sanjana Dipu, famous for her performance in Moothon, also has a prominent role in Samara. Along with them, the movie has around 35 foreign actors and actresses.
RJ Pappan is the editor of the film, while Sinu Sidharth is the cameraman. Gopi Sundar has composed the background score for Samara, which has been shot extensively in Kulu Manali, Dharamshala, and Jammu and Kashmir.
Rahman achieved much popularity as an actor during the 1990s, captivating audiences with his lead roles in Malayalam and Tamil films.
He was last seen in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan 2, in which he played Madhuranthakan Chola. While he didn't get much screen space in Ponniyin Selvan 1, he had a larger role in the sequel.
Rahman's upcoming projects include the Jayam Ravi-starrer Jana Gana Mana and Thupparivalan 2.
