After much speculation, Sam Raimi has addressed the notion that he is in fact developing a fourth Spider-Man film with Tobey Maguire. Marvel fans have long speculated that the filmmaker and actor duo may team up for a possible fourth instalment of his 2002 Spidey world.
Raimi told CBR during their WonderCon interview regarding the rumours that he hasn't heard about them yet. Although he has perused it, he is not currently putting any effort into it. The director really doubts that Marvel and Columbia will return to him with the idea of telling that narrative, what with how successful the Spider-Man films are at the moment and everything.
Raimi went on to say that he doesn't know, but he really enjoys the new Spider-Man films, and Spider-Man: No Way Home was the best. For the filmmaker, witnessing Maguire's return to the role was truly moving.
The director went on to helm Spider-Man 2 (2004) and Spider-Man 3 (2007) ahead of 2022's Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness, with which he made his triumphant return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While Raimi hadn't personally discussed the matter with Maguire, he speculated that Marvel or Columbia Pictures might have. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was his most recent project with Marvel. Thus, his relationship with them is cordial. If it were happening, he would definitely find out about it. Thus, he believes it to be true but is not sure.
Raimi expressed his willingness to reunite with Maguire and Kirsten Dunst for a fourth Spider-Man film in an interview from 2022. He remarked in an interview with ComicBook that he has come to realise after making Doctor Strange that anything is possible—really anything in the Marvel universe, any team-ups. He adores Maguire, and Dunst is his favourite. To the filmmaker, it seems like everything is possible, and he is not really well-prepared or has a narrative to tell.
At this time, Raimi can't say whether Marvel would be interested. What they think about that is something he is not privy to, as he hasn't given that much thought. Still, the melody is lovely, and his dream would be to reunite with Maguire in a different capacity, regardless of whether the film was based on Spider-Man or not.
