Average! To sum it up, a vast majority of social media reviews by netizens call Sam Bahadur an average film, while a few of them just called it straight out of Wikipedia. Starring Vicky Kaushal, Fatima Sana Sheikh, and Sanya Malhotra in the lead role, this Meghna Gulzar directorial is a biopic of India’s first field marshal and former Indian Army Chief Sam Manekshaw. This movie tries to wrap up the heroism displayed by Sam Manekshaw during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. While the subject may sound interesting, its on-screen portrayal is “dull and boring.”
In the film, Sanya Malhotra plays the role of Sam Manekshaw’s wife. But she has very little role to play in the film. Fatima, on the other hand, plays the role of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi – who as per social media users, appears like a “participant of a fancy dress competition on Independence Day.”
Meghna Gulzar, as per social media users, was unable to select the important life instances from Sam Manekshaw’s life and thus has put everything in the film with no head and tail. Not to miss, but some social media users felt that the “music was too loud and unnecessary” during certain scenes in the film.
Here are popular X (formerly known as Twitter) reactions.
“Watched much awaited #SamBahadur at a special screening. Vicky Kaushal is exceptional in depicting the legendary Field Marshal. Narrating Sam Bahadur’s life on big screen was important. The film however wasn’t as powerful or impactful as I was expecting. Too much cluttered,” wrote one X user.
Another X user said, “Loved watching Vicky Kaushal in every frame of #SamBahadur. However, plot was difficult to understand.”
One more X user said, “Vicky Kaushal delivered an award-winning performance. The film was okay.”
