Promotion for Salman Khan's next film, Sikandar, is currently in full swing. The superstar spoke frankly about his film, his life outside of work, and the difficulties Bollywood is facing in the wake of the pandemic during a recent group media interaction.

Salman Khan's blunt take on box office failures

"Jab itni gandi pictures banengi, to flop to hongi hi (When such terrible movies are made, they are bound to flop)," Salman declared without remorse. Even his own film, he went on to say, "Including my own film, if it doesn’t work, it is a bad film. If it works, it is a very good film."

Salman, who hasn't enjoyed much success since 2018's Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, asserted that movie stars should take responsibility when their films fail. In his opinion, the person portrayed on the poster or in the theatre is the star. They will also be held accountable if the movies don't succeed.

After more than 30 years in the movies, Salman asserted that the work was of low quality. Producers are competing with producers, he added, and directors are competing with directors.

Audience has evolved with OTT platforms

"Everyone wants to show the other person how a movie is made. No, you have got to make a film for the audience. You have to write it in such a way that you are sitting in the front row and enjoying it. Don’t think inko samajh nahi aayega (Don't think they won't understand this); how can you say that? Then you start spoon-feeding the audience. But the audience has gone way ahead. With the OTT platforms coming in, the audience has access to any film and all types of cinema from anywhere," the superstar claimed.

Salman went on to say that the actor's date or financial backing is all it takes to make a film nowadays. He added, "Our directors and producers are making films for the wrong reasons. My father told me this the other day. A film should only be made once you have the best script ever. Nothing else."

Salman Khan's optimism for Hindi cinema's future

Nevertheless, Salman concluded with an optimistic outlook, expressing his hope that Hindi cinema will move past this current situation.

Opening on March 30, Sikandar is the directorial effort of AR Murugadoss and will feature Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead parts.
