Every other day, Telugu superstar Prabhas’ upcoming film Salaar trends on social media for various reasons, especially when fans flood the platforms with questions on when to expect an update, or the trailer of the film. Salaar, which is directed by KGF-maker Prashant Neel, is supposed to release at the end of the month, on September 28. The film, much like KGF, was announced as one film, but, over the course of time, became a two-part project. Salaar Ceasefire is the first part that fans have been ardently counting down to.
But today, when #Salaar began trending, it was with a very different reason – a rumour had begun circulating that the makers were contemplating on pushing the release date ahead. Hombale Films, which is producing the film has not made an official announcement to that effect, but several netizens claimed that delays in the VFX works and some unsatisfactory graphics so far have forced the makers to take a decision. The buzz is that the film will be pushed ahead by at least three months, with a December release most likely. A Sankranti release in January 2024 is also being heard.
The rumours are gaining traction because Hombale Films are yet to announce the trailer release date, even though the film is, as of now, only four weeks away from hitting theatres. It was earlier reported that the trailer would be revealed with three weeks to go, with a major event either in Bengaluru, where the production house is headquartered, or in Hyderabad. Promotion campaigns were to kick off from September 14, OTTplay was told. But if the rumours are indeed right, all this will change. Some netizens are still hopeful that the rumours remain just that – rumours, considering that advance bookings for the film have begun in the overseas markets. Fans, of course, are not happy with the as-yet-unconfirmed development.
The news of the postponement, of course, has netizens discussing if it had anything to do with the fact that Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan is releasing on September 7. All eyes are now on Hombale Films to clarify if the most violent man will have his date with audiences on September 28 after all.
