Director Prashanth Neel’s highly anticipated film Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire - starring Prabhas, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Shruti Haasan - created a massive wave at the box office, upon its release on December 22. The story follows the friendship of Deva and Vardha, prince of the city-state Khansar. Salaar’s female lead Shruti is seen in a pivotal role in a big-budget film after a long time. The actress, who has worked in movies across languages, has showcased her prowess in this action thriller too.

Suriya starrer sci-fi martial arts film 7aum Arivu is directed by AR Murugadoss. It narrates the story of Dong Lee from China, who arrives in India to start a biological war. A genetic engineering student, played by Shruti, tries to revive the skills of Bodhidharma (Suriya) with the help of his descendant to defeat Dong Lee. The film was selected by the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce as India’s official Oscar entry, under the ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ category.

Shruti plays the lead role in one of the segments (Coffee, Anyone?) from the anthology film Putham Pudhu Kaalai. It revolves around two sisters, Valli and Saras, who visit their comatose mother, Soundara. They are upset about their father’s decision to treat her at home and their younger sister Ramya’s refusal to visit due to past conflicts. Despite initial differences, the sisters come together to emotionally connect with their mother.
