Director Prashanth Neel’s highly anticipated film Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire - starring Prabhas, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Shruti Haasan - created a massive wave at the box office, upon its release on December 22. The story follows the friendship of Deva and Vardha, prince of the city-state Khansar. Salaar’s female lead Shruti is seen in a pivotal role in a big-budget film after a long time. The actress, who has worked in movies across languages, has showcased her prowess in this action thriller too.

Directed by Aishwarya Rajinikanth, 3 is a romantic film, starring Dhanush and Shruti. The movie revolves around Ram and Janani, who fall in love and eventually get married. Janani is mystified when Ram commits suicide all of a sudden, and she tries to find out the truth behind his death. The movie is counted among Shruti’s best projects. It has received several accolades, making it a cult favourite among movie lovers.

2. 7aum Arivu (Tamil)

Suriya starrer sci-fi martial arts film 7aum Arivu is directed by AR Murugadoss. It narrates the story of Dong Lee from China, who arrives in India to start a biological war. A genetic engineering student, played by Shruti, tries to revive the skills of Bodhidharma (Suriya) with the help of his descendant to defeat Dong Lee. The film was selected by the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce as India’s official Oscar entry, under the ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ category. 

3. Putham Pudhu Kaalai (Episode: Coffee, Anyone?) (Tamil)

Shruti plays the lead role in one of the segments (Coffee, Anyone?) from the anthology film Putham Pudhu Kaalai. It revolves around two sisters, Valli and Saras, who visit their comatose mother, Soundara. They are upset about their father’s decision to treat her at home and their younger sister Ramya’s refusal to visit due to past conflicts. Despite initial differences, the sisters come together to emotionally connect with their mother. Directed by Suhasini Maniratnam, Coffee, Anyone? stars Shruti, Suhasini Maniratnam, Anu Hasan, Kathadi Ramamurthy and Komalam Charuhasan.

4. Srimanthudu (Telugu)

Directed by Koratala Siva, Srimanthudu features Mahesh Babu and Shruti in the lead. The story revolves around Harsha, an idealistic scion of a self-made multimillionaire, Ravikanth. After a chance meeting with Charuseela (Shruti) leads him to a remote village, Harsha wishes to develop it with her help. The film was a huge box office success. It also won many accolades, including Mahesh bagging the Nandi Award for ‘Best Actor’. 

5. D-Day (Hindi)

This action thriller follows intelligence officer Wali Khan and a team of highly trained officers, who are set on a mission to nab Goldman, one of India’s most wanted terrorists. However, their mission is threatened by a minor miscalculation. Directed by Nikhil Advani, D-Day features Rishi Kapoor, Irrfan Khan, Arjun Rampal, Huma Qureshi and Shruti in prominent roles.
