Fans of Prabhas, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Prashanth Neel have a good reason to rejoice this weekend, with Netflix officially confirming that Salaar – Part 1: Ceasefire will drop on the streaming platform on January 20.

While the platform has announced that the Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Tamil versions of the KGF director’s latest action-drama saga will drop on the streaming service, there’s still no news on when the Hindi-dubbed version will hit Netflix, which is rumoured to also have its rights.

The streaming giant had earlier this week announced its plans to stream Salaar, exactly a month after its theatrical release and on Friday, it was revealed that Salaar will drop at 12am on the platform worldwide.

Will Salaar’s OTT version have extra scenes?

Of late, several blockbusters of Indian cinema including Jawaan had extra footage that didn’t make it to the theatrical cut. The upcoming OTT version of Sandeep Vanga Reddy’s Animal featuring Ranbir Kapoor, which was already 3 hours an d 21 minutes long, too will have a new version for the streaming audience.

Netflix has announced that Salaar’s OTT version will have a runtime of 2 hours 55 minutes – which means that Prashanth and the makers of the film have resisted the urge of including any extra footage. It’s a good bet considering the film’s structure – which shuttles between the past and present of its lead characters as well as its main setting of the country of Khansaar. Extra scenes could have only complicated an already complex storyline – which is packed with enough intrigue to keep the audience excited for its upcoming sequel titled Salaar – Part 2: Shourangya Parvam.

Reasons to watch Salaar on OTT

Fans of Prashanth’s previous movies – Ugramm and the KGF blockbusters – would immediately find the film similar, in terms of tone, signature storytelling and characters. What Salaar also delivers is a strong comeback for its lead actor Prabhas , who has been desperate for a hit since Baahubali 2.

The Game of Thrones-like story and the myriad characters of the film also add to the complex plot that is punctuated with larger-than-life action sequences as well as a thumping soundtrack. That said, the film has several violent action scenes that are not for the faint-hearted. If you are one of those, there’s Rohit Shetty’s Indian Police Force – which also has enough action scenes – streaming on Amazon Prime Video this weekend.
