What's the release date of Salaar? This is the question that bugging the minds of movie-buffs across the country. And the latest update about its possible release date has got everyone in the industry excited. Several industry sources have confirmed that the much-awaited Prabhas-starrer will open in cinemas worldwide on December 22 this year. However, an official confirmation on the same is awaited.

In the meantime, a reliable source has suggested that the producers are on the verge of clinching a lucrative deal over the movie's OTT rights. The unsold digital rights were said to be one of the reasons behind postposing the release from the earlier announced date. 

Salaar set to make record-breaking OTT deal

Salaar was set to arrive in cinemas on September 28. However, the producers, Homable Films, postponed the release citing production reasons. “Please understand this decision is made with care, as we’re committed to delivering an exceptional cinematic experience. Our team is working tirelessly to meet the highest standards," said the production house.

However, the rumours claimed that the producers were waiting for the right OTT deal that aligned with their business interests. While it won't be a struggle to find a streaming partner for a Prabhas movie, according to an industry insider, the producers have quoted an astronomical price for its streaming rights, making it difficult for OTT giants to afford.

It's said that the producers are expected to earn a whopping Rs 200 crore from the sale of Salaar's streaming rights. If the deal comes through, it will overtake the digital revenue of Shah Rukh Khan's Dunki. JioCinema has reportedly bought the OTT rights of Rajkumar Hirani's directorial to an astronomical Rs 150 crore, making it the biggest streaming deal in India.

The homegrown OTT platforms are the frontrunners

Earlier, speculations were rife that Netflix had matched the expectations of the producers and bought the streaming deals of Salaar. However, an industry source now claims that the producers are working on a deal with not one but two home-grown streaming platforms.

It's said JioCinema and Aha are now the frontrunners to bag the movie's streaming rights. And Star Maa is already said to have bought the movie's satellite rights.
