At the end of KGF: Chapter 2, the makers teased that there would be another film in the saga, even though Yash’s Rocky Bhai was shown to have perished at sea. KGF: Chapter 3, according to reports, is to focus on the timeframe of 1978-1981, when Rocky Bhai became the CIA’s most wanted gangsters. Producer Vijay Kiragandur had initially announced that KGF-3 would go on floors in October 2022, but then Yash said that he wants to do something different before returning to the role that made him a national star. Since then, a huge question mark has remained over the fate of KGF: Chapter 3, what with Yash delaying the start of his next film and director Prashant Neel busy with multiple projects in Telugu.

According to latest reports, Prashant has categorically stated that KGF: Chapter 3 is still on the cards, but the filmmaker is not sure whether he will direct the same. Speaking to Pinkvilla as part of the promotions of Salaar: Ceasefire, the first part of the Prabhas-led film, Prashant said that a script is in place for KGF-3 and, hence, the team confidently announced it. However, given that he is committed to Salaar 2 and a film with NTR Jr as well, it may not be feasible for him to helm the next chapter in the KGF saga. This would not be new to Prashant, considering that Sriimurali’s next Bagheera is written by him, but being directed by Dr Suri. Prashant, we are told, is routinely apprised of the status of Bagheera.

Salaar: Ceasefire, meanwhile, is set for a December 22 release and will clash with Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki at the box office. Salaar is widely said to be Prashant’s massively updated version of his directorial debut Ugramm, a film that gave Sriimurali’s career a new lease of life. While the filmmaker has denied this but maintained that all his films will have shades of Ugramm, the trailer has all but convinced netizens that Salaar is Ugramm 2.0.
