Just when fans of Telugu superstar Prabhas began to rejoice that there was less than a month for the release of his next, the much-awaited Prashant Neel directed Salaar, came news that the film was being postponed to an undisclosed future date. Salaar, which was initially meant to be an April 14, 2022 release, a date that was then taken up by KGF: Chapter 2, after which came September 28, 2023. Shooting of the film was wrapped up a while ago and reports suggested that Prashant had been holed up in music director Ravi Basrur’s studio for the post-production, so, it was assumed that the film was well on course to meet its date with audiences. In fact, much of the buzz surrounding Salaar was about the impending trailer launch, which was rumoured to be slated for September 6, either in Bengaluru or Hyderabad.

But on September 1, social media literally lit up as rumours of a possible postponement emerged. Delays in the post-production, specifically with regard to VFX work, was cited as the reason, none of which was confirmed by the production house’s official handles. But when trade analyst Taran Adarsh said that a delay was inevitable, a mad rush began to realign the release plans of other films, now that the September 28 window had opened.

The initial buzz was that Salaar would be postponed to a date close to Sankranti, with January, 2024, apparently the most likely for the film. However, it was then said that the banner was toying with dates in October, November and December. October, though, looks highly unlikely, as Dasara is already jam-packed with films like Ghost, Leo, Bhagavanth Kesari. December was also ruled out, given that Shah Rukh Khan has booked the Christmas holiday with his Dunki and that Salaar would not clash with it. The best case scenario, as of now, appears to be Diwali, with November 10 the widely circulated new release date for the film. Hombale Films is expected to make an official announcement shortly. We reached out to Chaluve Gowda of Hombale Films for comment on the postponement, but he remained unavailable until the time of publication.
