For the longest time, netizens have been convinced that Prashant Neel’s Salaar is an updated version of Ugramm on a bigger and, hopefully, better canvas. The trailer, they say, just confirmed it

The much-awaited Salaar Ceasefire trailer is here and despite the nearly 4 minute run-time, it did not exactly appeal to audiences. The reason – the trailer just affirmed what had been rumoured all along. Salaar is director Prashant Neel’s Ugramm, but on a massive canvas. Disappointed with this turn of events, netizens have been taking to social media to share the Salaar trailer that they liked with links to the trailer of Ugramm. Many Kannada viewers were also irked that the Kannada version of the trailer came a good half an hour after the Telugu original, even after the Malayalam version.
In recent interviews, Prashant had claimed that he’d thought of the story of Salaar well before he made Ugramm. Composer Ravi Basrur, though, had told the media that Salaar being a remake of Ugramm was public knowledge. In fact, during the promotions of KGF: Chapter 2, Prashant had spoken about his greatest learnings from making Ugramm, which he had produced with great difficulty and lost money on, was that he should have made it with a big star and with a production house that has the might to make it big and promote it too. When Salaar was announced, it was said that Prashant was finally getting to work on this learning.
Salaar Ceasefire, produced by Hombale Films, is releasing in theatres on December 22. This one, say netizens, will establish in greater detail the childhood bond between Prabhas and Prithviraj’s characters (Sriimurali and Tilak in the original), as it is being made in two parts. The film, which has cinematography by Prashant’s regular collaborator Bhuvan Gowda, also stars Pramod, Jagapathy Babu, Garuda Ram, Eashwari Rao, Shreya Reddy, among others. The makers are yet to announce how soon Part 2 will be in theatres.
