Rishi, who was last seen in the romantic comedy Ramana Avatara, returns with a film in a tad more serious setting. It’s also a film that has the actor back in cop uniform after Kavaludaari. Rudhra Garuda Purana, directed by KS Nandeesh, is set to hit theatres on January 24, ahead of which, the team released the film’s trailer.

It had earlier been revealed that the story of Rudhra Garuda Purana takes inspiration from the urban legend of the mysterious Pan Am Flight 914, that disappeared for over three decades. Here, Rishi’s Inspector Rudhra is called in to investigate the missing person case of a sitting MLA’s son, Manu, who was last seen with his girlfriend boarding a bus. A week after the young man’s disappearance, cops remain clueless about what befell him, which is what Rudhra has to get to the bottom of.

First believed to be a politically-motivated kidnapping takes a far more sinister turn when Rudhra realizes that the bus route, 17A Kaveri Express, does not exist. In fact, the bus, which met with an accident 25 years ago, had been decommissioned since then. How then has it returned to the land of the living? Is black magic at play, with human sacrifice at its crux? What’s the mystery behind Manu’s girlfriend Ushalatha? This and more will be revealed when the film releases on January 24.

“I will not make tall claims, but the film has turned out far better than we’d initially envisioned. I am often asked why I am not seen in films more often and my answer has always been that even if I do only a few, they have to be good projects. With Rudhra Garuda Purana, I have got the opportunity to work with a fantastic team. It’s rare to find a filmmaker with the clarity and vision like Nandeesh,” said Rishi at the trailer launch.
