The much-awaited magnum opus, RRR, finally released today; the Rajamouli directorial has taken phenomenal openings across the country. The movie, which stars Ram Charan and Jr NTR in lead roles, has been released in a huge number of theatres in Tamil Nadu. It has had the second biggest release in Tamil Nadu this year, after Ajith-starrer Valimai, which released a month ago.
With around 1,000 theatres, Valimai released in record number of movie halls in the history of Tamil cinema, and RRR has managed to release in more than 600 screens. Interestingly, Rajamouli's Baahubali 2 went on to become the highest grossing movie in the state when it was released in 2017.
The early reviews from the audience in Tamil Nadu have been encouraging enough, and it is expected that the movie will register good numbers on day one. Movie buffs and the trade are eagerly awaiting to know how much the film will collect in the state in its entire run.
With no big releases till April 13, it is expected that RRR will have a gala time at the Tamil box office. Vijay's Beast and Yash's KGF 2 are the next big projects that are eagerly awaited by the Tamil audience.
The next week will witness the release of Venkat Prabhu's Manmatha Leelai, GV Prakash's Selfie and Shiva's Idiot. It has to be seen if these films will be able to put a dent to the box office prospects of RRR.
While Baahubali franchise had the likes of Sathyaraj, Ramya Krishna, Nasser, Anushka and Tamannaah who are quite familiar to Kollywood cinephiles, RRR has only the presence of Samuthirakani. But with a master filmmaker like Rajamouli at its helm, film buffs are hopeful that the big-budget has adequate elements to impress them.
